Users' Guide

1. Shinshu University Library Digital Archive

The Shinshu University Library Digital Archive is an integrated digital archive related to Shinshu University, which makes available to the public rare materials, including classical books and other materials owned by the University, as well as images of materials deposited by partner institutions.
In addition to migrating the digital archives and other materials that have been released individually to this digital archive, the digitization and mounting of materials that have not yet been digitized will also be progressed sequentially. Please look forward to the future of the Shinshu University Library Digital Archive.

2. Menu

(1) Collection

Displays a list of collections, publicly available in the Shinshu University Library Digital Archive.
Selecting a collection allows you to limit your search to materials within each collection.

(2) Search

You can cross-search all collections. By default, all materials are shown on the search screen, you can narrow down search by keywords or facets (such as collection and subject on the right side of the screen).

(3) News

Displays announcements about the Shinshu University Library Digital Archive.

3. How to Search

(1) Keywords
  • AND Search: When conducting a search with multiple keywords, please enter the keywords separated by spaces. The results will display materials that contain all of the entered keywords.
  • OR Search: OR search is not supported.
  • Case Sensitivity: There is no distinction between uppercase and lowercase letters.
  • Single-byte/two-byte characters: There is no distinction between single-byte and two-byte characters. (i. e. "123" and "123" have the same result.)
  • Kanji Dictionary: This website uses "Kanji Unification Index" from National Institute of Informatics (with the cooperation of Mr. Yasunori Wakayama formerly of Reitaku University), which supports searching for variant characters.
(2) Advanced Search

On the search screen for each collection, click “>Advanced Search” below the keyword search box to display search boxes limited to specific items.

(3) Facets (Narrowing down results) 

The search results can be narrowed down using various items such as "Subject" and "Period Code." If you search from the search screen for each collection, only the items corresponding to that collection will be displayed.
Multiple selections within the same item will result in OR Search, and multiple selections between different items will result in AND Search.

4. Display and Download of the Images

By default, the image is displayed in Mirador Viewer. You can switch the viewer to Universal Viewer by pressing the button.

①Add images to be displayed side-by-side to the viewer. Click “Add Resource,” and fill in the IIIF Manifest URL.
②Full screen mode
③Show/hide the sidebar
④Change thumbnail display
⑤Download displayed image
⑥Maximize the image in the current window

5. System Requirements 

The latest versions of the following browsers are supported: Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Safari.
